A winter miracle and wonder!

It never ceases to amaze me how God looks into the fine details of existence for seemingly insignificant matters. After all, what enduring significance does a rabbit in Canada have? Yet (and these photos show it), the Jackrabbit's coat changes from the grey/brown of spring-fall into "snow-white" for the winter months, giving these rabbits added camoflage to hide them from predators. If you ever get a chance, ask me about "freeze tolerant frogs" that also live in Manitoba! God is such a creative artist and engineer!

Neena and I found this one resting under a spruce tree (2nd photo) - from a distance looking like a lump of snow. We kept our distance, but s/he was wary and bolted into the field (1st photo).

These Jackrabbits live on the nearby University of Manitoba experimental fields, and we've enjoyed them on a number of occasions. They are very fast and elegant - living remnants of the glory of the Great Plains that once robed our continent with wild splendor.
